Team Spotlight: Mia Patel, Product Intern

Our new teammate explains how her interest in the intersection of technology and finance led her to Crowdz.

What are some highlights from your professional background?

I am currently attending the University of Notre Dame, studying Computer Science! I was previously a finance major, but also wanted a technical background, so I decided to switch although I still maintained an interest in Finance.

What is your role?

I am currently an intern for the Products team, where I am learning what it’s like to be a product manager at a tech startup.

What are some of the hats you wear (known or unknown)?

I have been delving deeper into NFTs and blockchain at Crowdz, which has been super interesting and insightful.

Why were you interested in working with Crowdz?

I am heavily interested in the intersection between technology and finance, which is why Crowdz was the perfect match for me to explore this interest!

What makes Crowdz unique?

When I had to meet the team, I was initially very intimidated. However, I soon realized that everyone at Crowdz is incredibly interesting and inspiring. It feels like everyone is passionate about what they are working on, which you don’t see very often.

What is the future for Crowdz?

Since I have been working on the blockchain/NFT part of Crowdz’s platform, I can definitely see that becoming the future of the company, as many large corporations are further behind in “innovation”, especially in the crypto/blockchain space.

What is one fun fact we do not know about you?

When I was little, I was obsessed with Chemistry because I had purchased a book about the periodic table from the scholastic book fair. I decided to memorize it and paint it on my wall one summer, which was not a typical nine-year-old activity. I can still recite the first couple of rows, but I forgot most of it.

If you could choose anyone as your mentor, who would you pick?

I think I already have a mentor: my Dad. Although I don’t like to admit it, he has always been right. His insights and advice has helped me so much throughout my school years (and future job opportunities). I definitely strive to be exactly like him when I am older!

What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?

In junior year of high school, I really wanted to buy a jacket but didn’t have the funds to purchase it. I decided to get a job, and was able to get hired within 3 days. However, I didn’t really think about the actual tasks I had to do, and ended up serving fish tacos, lobster grilled cheese, and other interesting food items all throughout the spring semester of Junior year. Let’s just say I ended up quitting within a couple months…and I never bought the jacket either.

If you could learn anything, what would it be?

I’ve always wanted to learn how to play the piano. Unfortunately, in middle/high school, I decided to pick up the Oboe instead. Although I enjoyed it, there is so much more you can play on a piano.

What was the first concert you attended?

I attended an Akon concert (my mom called him “Acorn”) with my entire family when I was eight year old. None of us knew any of his music except for Don’t Matter. It was an interesting experience…

If you have 30-minutes of free time, how do you pass the time?

My favorite thing to do when I have free time is go on a coffee or matcha run no matter where I am! It is always a fun treat and helps me relax a little bit, especially when I have a stressful day ahead.
